Be Visible! Bike Lights Now Required on Multi-use Paths and Sidewalks
The Dubuque City Council earlier this week passed an ordinance to require bicycles to have white front and red rear lights, visible to 100 yards in each direction, not only on city streets but now expanded to multi-use paths and sidewalks between sunset and sunrise. The prior ordinance only applied to streets. A safety hazard occurs when cyclists ride on multi-use paths and sidewalks in the dark. Now cyclists can be ticketed for riding without lights after sunset and before sunrise. So if you are looking for a Christmas present for those on your list, you have an idea!
