Dubuque County Conservation Update Fall 2025

County Conservation Brian Preston recently discussed conservation activities, projects, and accomplishments.

• The five-year-old Dubuque County Conservation Masterplan will be updated soon. Adjustments may be needed with unexpected maintenance, changed situations, or new land acquisitions, such as the Locher Recreation Area (as mentioned in an earlier article on page 2 of this issue).

• The Bankston Park bottomland trails and pond are being renovated and should be completed soon.

• The West John Deere Trail will soon be connected to the Little Maquoketa Mounds parking lot.

• The Dyersville section of the Heritage Trail has undergone various studies to prepare for future paving of the western two miles, which are scheduled for completion a year from now. An application from a state recreational trail fund has been submitted for trail bridge construction funding.

• County officials are looking for water access points of the North Fork Maquoketa River in hopes for future water trail development.
